Students in Scofield Farms attend schools in the Pflugerville Independent School District.  Children in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade attend Parmer Lane Elementary School, which received the Texas Honors Circle Award.  

Westview Middle School serves students in grades six through eight.  Westview’s mission is to provide a flexible curriculum in a challenging, safe, supporting environment where students develop the skills needed to excel as responsible, productive members of society.

Connally High School’s mascot is the Cougars and the school offers on-campus academies centered around various career disciplines including Engineering and Technology; Arts, Education, and Service; Natural Science and Medicine; and Business and Information Technology.  

There are many employers in a variety of fields in Scofield Farms or nearby.

Scofield Farms

This month, we’re spotlighting the Scofield Farms Neighborhood of Austin, Texas, which began construction in the early 1980’s.  This quiet gem of a neighborhood is located between I-35 and Mopac, just North of Parmer and south of Howard Lane in North Austin.  Its location is popular with tech workers because of its proximity to employers like Dell, Samsung Semiconductor, and IBM.  It is also close to major highways, so it’s great for a 20 minute commute into downtown Austin or other areas of the city.

Residents of Scofield Farms enjoy its family atmosphere, highly rated schools, and events like Fourth of July Parades.  It’s also more affordably priced because it has never been a trendy neighborhood like those in Central Austin.  It’s not far from shopping at the Arboretum or the Domain, either, and St. David’s North Austin Medical Center is also close for emergencies.

Hutto Schools and Employers

This month, we’re spotlighting Hutto, a suburb of Austin, Texas.  This week, we’ll be taking a look at the Schools and Employers in this small town Northeast of Austin.

Students in Hutto attend schools in the Hutto Independent School District.  Students in grades nine through twelve attend Hutto High School, whose mascot is the Hippo and whose colors are orange and white.  

Hutto residents in grades six through eight attend Hutto Middle School or Farley Middle School.  

Students in grades Kindergarten through fifth attend one of four elementary schools:  Hutto, Nadine Johnson, Cottonwood Creek, or Ray Elementary.  

There are a few employers in Hutto, but many residents commute to Round Rock, Pflugerville or even Austin to get to work.

Allison Electric is an electric contractor who employs electricians who do both residential and commercial electrical work.

A.R. Machining, Inc. has its operations in Hutto, where they manufacture parts for Oilfields in their plant there.  They employ machinists to make some of the most cutting edge technology in the Oil and Gas Industry.

Hutto is just ten miles from Dell, a global computer manufacturer and seller that employs over 100,000 people across the globe.  Michael Dell famously started the company in his dorm room at the University of Texas and grew the company into one of the largest computer companies in the world.

Hutto

This month, we’re going to be profiling Hutto, Texas, a suburb of Austin Texas.  This rapidly growing town is located 11 miles East of Round Rock and 22 miles Northeast of Austin. Hutto has been growing rapidly over the last decade or so, from just over 1,000 people in 2000, to 14,698 by the 2010 census.

Hutto was established in 1876, when the International-Great Northern Railroad passed through the land of Hutto’s namesake, James Emory Hutto.  Shortly after, many more families, mostly Swedish and German immigrants, arrived in Hutto via the railroad to farm and ranch.  

The sports teams in Hutto are the Hippos, and the story is that in 1915 when a circus train stopped at the depot, a hippopotamus escaped from the train.  He headed straight for Cottonwood Creek and began to enjoy himself in its muddy waters.  Eventually, the hippo was coaxed to leave the mud and return to the train car.  It wasn’t too long after that when the Hutto School adopted the hippopotamus as its mascot.

This month, we’re spotlighting Pflugerville, a suburb of Austin, Texas.  This week we’ll be taking a look at the schools and employers located in this town just North of Austin.

Pflugerville is served by the Pflugerville School District.  The high schools are Pflugerville High School and Hendrickson High School.  Pflugerville High’s mascot is the Panthers and they serve over 2,000 students in grades nine through twelve. Hendrickson High School’s mascot is the Hawks and their TEA ranking is Recognized.

Students in grades six through eight attend one of three middle schools.  The first is the TEA Recognized Kelly Lane Middle School, home of the Knights.  Pflugerville Middle School’s mascot is the Panthers.  Park Crest Middle School is ranked Recognized and is home of the Pumas.

Pflugerville is served by seven elementary schools.  Spring Hill, Murchison, Timmerman, and Highland Park are all ranked Recognized.  Riojas is Exemplary.  The other two elementaries are Wieland and Brookhollow.

Due to Pflugerville’s convenient location right between Austin and Round Rock, area employers are easy convenient to get to.  These include Dell, Inc., a global computer manufacturer and seller that employs over 100,000 people across the globe and is only 6 miles from Pflugerville.  Michael Dell famously started the company in his dorm room at the University of Texas and for years the joke was that the janitor at Dell was probably a millionaire because of his stock options.  The company was recently sold and it remains to be seen what effect this will have on its operations in Round Rock.

Pflugerville

This month, we’ll be spotlighting Pflugerville, a city just north of Austin, Texas.  This suburb was originally founded by German immigrant Henry Pfluger, Sr. in 1849, but wasn’t developed until after the Civil War.  Pflugerville is popular today for its proximity to Austin, low rental rates and house prices, and schools.  

Pflugerville was ranked 46 on CNN Money’s top 100 places to live for its low cost of living, excellent health care, and man-made 180 acre reservoir, Lake Pflugerville.  Lake Pflugerville has a three-mile trail, a beach, and water activities like kite surfing that keeps area residents busy in their downtime.  The city government also has a commitment to sustainability and is currently working on building what will become one of the largest solar farms in the country.  Add in a historic downtown, proximity to highways like SH 130 and SH 45, and lots of fun city-sponsored events, and you have a great place to lay down roots.
