Capital Metro will be providing a free mobile app from November 10th through 24th that users can take advantage of to buy bus and rail fare from their phones. The Austin Capital Metro app may expand to permanent availability in the future. Cap Metro will also have a free downtown bus loop from Cesar Chavez to 15th streets. The cost for the expanded service is unknown, but the tab for most of the downtown shuttle route will be picked up by sponsors.
City services will be spending $38,000 to pay for 40 additional employees who will pick trash up 24 hours a day in an expanded area. Downtown litter patrols will stretch all the way to areas west of 35 between Lamar Blvd, Cesar Chavez Street, and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and east of 35 between Chicon, 12th and Cesar Chavez Streets. Curbside pickups for residents around downtown shouldn't be interrupted, although residents may have a one day delay in pick up if traffic prevents trucks from getting to their house.
Austin Energy will also have more crews at a substation in Elroy near the Circuit of Americas racetrack. Most city construction downtown will be suspended over the weekend and private construction projects have also been asked to temporarily suspend work as well.
