Two new bars got permission from the San Marcos Planning and Zoning
Commission Tuesday in the form of permits. One bar will be
Bobcat-themed and be close to Texas State and the other will be an
upscale lounge near the outlet malls, San Marcos Mercury reports.
Bobcat
Nation Sports Bar and Grill will be in a 2,700 square foot space in the
Center at San Marcos strip mall, which is located across Sessom Drive
from Texas State. It will have 60 indoor and 16 outdoor seats. The
grill is co-owned by Terry Wagner, who has been a mail carrier in San
Marcos for almost 40 years. He says the owners chose a location away
from the downtown entertainment district and near Texas State where
there aren't many bars. He's also excited about the Bobcat theme.
On
the other end of town, way south near the outlet malls, Cody Couch's
Cody's Bistro & Lounge will occupy a 2,400 square foot space that
used to be home to Craigo's Pizza in a strip mall that his family
recently bought. The center is also home to former council member Pam
Couch's clothing stores, Two P's and Calli's boutique. The bar will be
the first full bar on the south end of town located close to
neighborhoods like Willow Creek and Turkey Hollow, home to the city's
higher income residents. Couch plans for his bar to be high end and
"serve quality, fresh food and nice drinks." His targeted customer is
local San Marcos residents.
The planning commission unanimously
voted for one-year conditional use permits that allow alcohol to be
served for both locations. Cody's father, commissioner Bucky Couch,
recused himself from voting on his son's application.
