Round Rock
Lots of people from out of town ask me about Round Rock apartments in comparison to Austin apartments. While everyone has heard of Austin, most people don’t know the surrounding area near as well. They don’t realize that there are a lot of small surrounding communities like Round Rock, Cedar Park, Plugerville, Buda that offer very affordable, family-friendly rentals and apartments, but are still withing an easy commute to central Austin. While each community offers it’s own flavor, benefits and drawbacks, in this post I’m going to stick to Round Rock, since it’s an area I know well.
Apartments in Round Rock, Tx tend to offer a smaller community feel, much like the city itself. Round Rock is nestled at the North end of Austin. Originally a small settlement, the expansion of both Austin and Rock Rock melded them together at their borders. But downtown Round Rock still retains it’s charm and is now one of the fastest growing communities in the nation.
Round Rock is a wonderful place for family-friendly rentals. With some of the best public schools in the nation, RRISD bring families from all over who want to work in Austin, but have the benefits of Round Rock Schools.
Because Round Rock’s growth explosion is fairly recent, and land it plentiful, many Round Rock apartments follow the latest resort-style trend. You will find lots of newer, larger, master-planned apartment communities with a long list of amenities like resort-style pools, sports courts, luxury club houses, open floor plans and high-end interior finishes, but for a better price tag than many Austin apartments.
Another driving factor for Round Rocks is the job market. There are many large employers like Dell, IKEA, the Round Rock Outlet Mall, and the Westinghouse Plant in addition to all the small business employers that have popped up with Round Rock’s recent growth. One of it’s latest areas of growth is in higher education. Texas State has a satellite campus in Round Rock, as well as the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine and Concordia Lutheran.
Regardless of your reason for wanting an apartment in Round Rock versus Austin, you will still have easy access to Austin. The cities are connected by two large thoroughfares - I35 at the east end and 1325/Mopac at the west end. The I45 toll road also provides easy access directly into northwest Austin.
